Jeremiah 33:3

Preached by Brother Luthendo at Mukovha SDA on Sabbath, 31 October 2026, in English and Tshivenda.

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” — Jeremiah 33:3

Key points

  1. Prayer is a direct line, not a last resort. Many of us pray only when everything else has failed. God’s call is an invitation, and it is open to every son and daughter, not only to “super Christians”. God is not far away. He is one prayer away.
  2. Prayer changes the one praying before it changes the situation (1 Samuel 1). After Hannah prayed, nothing around her had changed yet, but “her countenance was no more sad”. In prayer we trade anxiety for peace and our weakness for His strength. We may come in worried and leave worshipping.
  3. Prayer unlocks what grace has already provided (Ephesians 6:18; Matthew 7:7). “Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Many people are waiting on God while God is waiting for them to pray. Stop waiting and start knocking.
  4. Prayer breaks chains that talent cannot break (Acts 16). Paul and Silas did not preach their way out of prison. They prayed, and the prison shook. Struggles like addiction are not won by motivation. What we cannot fix in the flesh can be broken in prayer.
  5. Prayer unites us, so we pray together (Deuteronomy 32:30; Matthew 18:20). This is not prayer for the youth only, and it is not prayer for fun. When you pray alone you survive. When we pray together we become an army. A brother’s faith lifts your weak prayer, and your prayer covers your sister.
  6. Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). The real power of prayer shows tomorrow, when temptation comes and you stand. Come with an open heart and you will leave with a new fire, and people will see that you have been with Jesus. Do not pray only until you feel better. Keep praying until you are changed.
